IPL 2012 Teams

by admin on December 27, 2011

The season of Indian Premier League will soon begin in India. This year a total nine teams will be playing the IPL. This will be fifth season of the Indian Premier League that started in the year 2008. The BCCI or the Board of Control for Cricket in India established this league in 2007. This year in 2012 the IPL will begin from 4th April. The League will end on 27th May 2012.The opening ceremony of the IPL season 5 will be held in Chennai on 3rd April 2012.

The IPL 2012 teams include:

  • Rajasthan Royals
  • Chennai Super Kings
  • Bangalore Royal Challengers
  • Kolkata Knight Riders
  • Delhi Dare Devils
  • Kings XI Punjab
  • Mumbai Indians
  • Deccan Chargers and
  • Pune Warriors

It has been reported that the team from Kochi named Kochi Tuskers will not be playing this year 2012 Indian Premier League. However the players from this team will be auctioned for the 2012 matches.

The new IPL governing body which is now headed by Rajiv Shukla along with the BCCI has already decided the fate of the Kochi Tuskers for the 2012 IPL matches. Even though they tried really hard, the Kochi Tuskers could not make it for this year. While the auction of IPL 2012 teams has not been done for this edition, it is yet to be decided which all players get the best deal for the season 5.

However, current information on IPL-5 says that the Pune Warriors will try to retain Saurav Ganguly not only as a player, but as a mentor for the whole team. Information about the IPL 2012 also says that Bangalore Royal Challengers would like to retain Chris Gayle in their team, although it is yet to be confirmed by the IPL and BCCI board. The Coach Dav Whatmore has already resigned from the Kolkata Knight Riders Team as he is contemplating on the offer of being the coach of a National Team. Sources say that Trevor Baylis will be new coach in the team.

According to IPL guidelines, if the Royal Challengers wish to have Chris Gayle in their team then they have the right to sign him first, provided both the franchisee and the player agree to the terms and conditions. Chris Gayle came to the Royal Challengers last year as a replacement for Dirk Nannes. If Chris Gayle does not wish to continue with his previous franchisee, then he will enter the scheduled auction of IPL 2012.

BCCI has announced that this year, they will allow additional amount for spending on the new players by extending their salary cap.

The auction for players for the IPL 2012 teams will be held on 4th of February this year. Since nine teams will play for 2012 IPL, they will be playing on the original format of home and away. So each team will play two matches which will include one at home ground and the other at the rival ground. It is just a month away to know who all are playing for IPL 2012 teams.
