Mumbai Indians have signed up the Twenty20 Record Man, Richard Levi as a replacement for Australian batsman Andrew Symonds for the 5th season of Indian Premier League.
The 24 year old opening batsman Levi, who saved his name in the records with the fastest century in International Twenty20 last weekend breaking earlier records of Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle, will be playing in the upcoming season of IPL for the first time.
A media release from the , “The Champions League 2011 champions Mumbai Indians, has signed Twenty20 sensation South African batsman Richard Levi as a replacement for Australian player Andrew Symonds, for Indian Premier League 2012. He will be accessible for Mumbai Indians full season.”
Richard Levi caught everyone’s attentions when he flamed his way into the records with his fastest T20 international century on 19th February, 2012 – by reaching 3 figure score just in 45 balls with 3 fours and 12 sixes.
The South African batsman made a winning 117 at Hamilton in just 51 balls in the match against New Zealand with an additional six and 2 more fours to his account as South Africa fixed New Zealand’s total score of 173 for four with 24 balls to standby.
All together, Richard Levi has corresponded to the Proteas in 3 Twenty20 Internationals and has played in 37 first class matches with humble returns. He is going to make his IPL debut in the upcoming season beginning on 4th April, 2012.
Richard has conveyed his happiness of joining the ranks of his childhood idol, MI skipper Tendulkar and a senior bowler Harbhajan Singh.

The media release from franchise added, “Levi is the perfect suit for Mumbai Indians present need. After the announcement of Andrew Symonds retirement, we were looking for a blasting opener and Levi’s timing for his unbeaten 117 score was just ideal to grab our attention.”

A very good pick up by the mumbai indians , all though symonds was not in his very good form nor he will be any more.
Hats up to Mumbai Indians for their picks up in the ipl – 5 auctions. this time also they will rock as they did last year.
