Luke Wright Signs For Pune Warriors

The Sussex all-rounder, Luke Wright, has declared on twitter that he had signed with Sahara based IPL franchise Pune Warriors for the upcoming IPL season, 2012. The deal implies that he will miss his English season and would not be available at least for 6 Country Championship Matches.

The 27-year-old cricketer, stated on twitter, “I am delighted to be part of the IPL with Pune Warriors. However, I am unhappy for missing the start of the Sussex season but it is a great chance that few could turn away.”


Wright stock rose extensively when playing in Australia’s Big Bash League for Melbourne Stars during 2011-2012 in which he made the fastest hundred in the league’s history, against Hobart Hurricanes off 44 balls. He has made above 2,000 runs in T20 cricket with two centuries.

He has goals to win a place in one-day team of England. Wright has played 30 T20 matches and 46 ODIs but his last cap came back in England was T20 defeat in 2011 against Sri Lanka in Bristol. Previous edition he made 341 runs in Twenty20s for Sussex at strike rate of 34.10.


Sahara based Warriors have now filled all their overseas players spots, with West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels, Autralia all-rounders Steven Smith and James Hopes having signed ahead for the upcoming 5th edition of IPL. Pune Warriors will begin their IPL campaign on 6 April against Mumbai.
