As per the recent reports, it is considered that franchises of Indian Premier League are not going to support Sahara Pune Warriors fielding 5 foreign cricketers in 5th edition of IPL.
After BCCI and Sahara called peace last week, BCCI stated that the Sahara Pune Warriors could field a 5th foreign player in the team’s squad if the rest of the franchises agree for it. Sahara’s requests came in result to the absence of their crucial player Yuvraj Singh who is presently undergoing chemotherapy treatment in America.
The official statement say, “Despite the latest decision of working committee denying 5 foreign players in the playing eleven, in reflection of the exceptional situation and the unavailability of Yuvraj Singh, Sahara was offered to get the feedback of other franchises for the approval of the demand to have 5th foreign player for fielding in the Pune Warriors.”
However, the franchises seem not to have any issues with Cricket Board’s other proposals approving Sahara’s requests to buy players for Pune Warriors, outside the auction.
A franchise official said, “The BCCI should have been particular to have the deal with Sahara India. They should say ‘this is not the rule’ and ‘this is the rule’. By BCCI saying to Sahara that it is up to the rest of the franchises to have the approval of the demand, it has now become an emotional thing”.
There was a general gap of annoyance in terms of the conclusion between two parties. The franchise official also said that while the Sahara Group and the BCCI have resolved their part, the terms are going to be ambiguous.
Another franchise official said that for him rules are rules and emotions could not buy them. He also said, “This is the reason you have got many Indian cricketers as back-up. What in case if a famous, present Indian player fractures his finger during the first game in IPL? Then what do we do? Where do we stop it?”
However, while most of the IPL teams had problem with the 5th foreign player allowance, one of the teams had no issues. The franchise official said, “This is not an issue in my personal ability if it is only for 1 year. I do not think it should be a problem, particularly if a team has lost a great cricketer like Yuvraj Singh.”
