The famous pop star, Katy Perry would be taking active part in the Indian Premier League opening night at YMCA grounds in Chennai. Other performers include Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Prabhu Deva

Having ruled the top music lists and having won all the prestigious awards from the Billboard to that of Brit, Katy, the pop princess has now moved towards the Indian Premier League (IPL) bandwagon. She will be now performing at the opening ceremony of IPL-5, being held in Chennai, on 3rd April, 2012.

Having explored different parts of the globe and now ready to make her debut performance through IPL in India, the pop star will be helping flag off the upcoming season of league in her own style.

About Katy’s much-awaited performance, Rajeev Shukla, IPL Chairman said, “We are looking forward to the pop-star Ms. Perry’s performance at theOpening Nite of DLF IPL 2012. A performer of her standard will make the eve more special for the Indian Premier League family – organisers, players and fans. This visit would be her second visit to India. She was married to British actor-cum-comedian Russell Brand in October 2012 in India. Unfortunately, the couple parted away within 14 months of their marriage.

Priyanka says, “I am always pretty excited to perform live. Priyanka says, “Being an actor, I have always tried to appear differently during every performance. I don’t like to reveal so much prior to performance, still I can say one thing; it is going to be so much of fun. Hence for the Indian Premier League, I will promise that I match the tournament’s excitement and energy.”

Though the organisers maintain a tight-lip about the information on priyanka’s act, it seems like her act would be theme based. An insider says, “Priyanka is not allowed to reveal about her performance. She will begin her rehearsals in a few days. As it is a sports event, it might not include too many of Bollywood numbers.”

As of now, Priyanka is going through a heavy shooting schedule for movies like Hrithik’s Krissh 3, Anurag Basu’s Barfi and Kunal Kohli’s untitled production with Shahid Kapoor.

Delhi Daredevils have acquired South Africa batsman Gulam Bodi and Victoria all-rounder Glenn Maxwell into their squad for the forthcoming IPL edition, instead of Travis Birt and Colin Ingram.

The 23-year-old, Maxwell has played fourteen List-A games, with an average of 25.44 and has taken 9 wickets at an average of 37.55 in the List-A format. He set a record of the fastest half-century, in Australian domestic List-A cricket matches, off 17 balls. He has also played eleven first-class cricket matches, in the format where he has improved better in, and as many T20 games.

“When the team manager of the Daredevils, Aashish Kapoor and I watched the game of Glenn in ‘Emerging Players’ Tournament’ in July last year, in Australia, we found him as a cricketer of great potential who likes being in the competition,” said TA Sekar, Delhi Daredevils’ mentor.

He said, “When we watched Glenn bat, we remembered how we had found David Warner back in 2008. We think Glenn will soon play for Australia. Apart from being a great batsman, he is also a excellent off-spinner and a great fielder, with transferable enthusiasm.”

“A multi-talented cricketer like him will plus great value to our side,” Sekhar said.

33-year-old Body, who played in 2 One Day International matches and a T20 for South Africa, made his first class cricket debut in 1996-97 and from then he took part in 131 List-A matches with an average of 32.40. He also managed to play 64 T20 matches, with an average of 29.29 having highest score of 98 not out. According to Sekar, Modi will remain as a middle-order choice.

Sekar said, “Bodi was the best choice, provided that we had to look for a player within the base price of Birt. Just one day, he scored an aggressive 90 off 51 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes for the Lions team against the Warriors team in the T20 Challenge in South Africa.”

Mega superstar, Bollywood Legend Amitabh Bachchan will participate in the opening ceremony of upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) beginning on April 3, in Chennai.

The 69-year-old actor, who has been in a break to get better from abdominal operations, last month, is getting ready for the IPL opening ceremony event.

The actor tweeted “Asia cup will over soon and then Indian Premier League begins. Opening ceremony will be in Chennai on April 3rd. I am already preparing for the ceremony.”

He tweeted on his page, “Meeting all the teams and captains will be a great honour. I have seen all of them on Television, and now got a chance to meet them personally.”

Amitabh, known for his baritone and deep voice, was the host for four editions of the game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ and also hosted the 3rd season of the reality show ‘Big Boss’.

Along with Amitabh, other Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra will also take part in the opening ceremony of IPL-5 to be held at YMCA College of Physical Education on 3rd April.

An IPL release stated, besides Bollywood stars, the ‘Nite’ will also feature performance from a world-class artist.
The ceremony will also feature captains of all the teams signing the MCC Spirit of Cricket document that has been on the show since the inauguration of the league in 2008.

Rajeev Shukla, IPL chairman said in the statement, “With 4 grand successful IPL editions with us, we hope to improve the standards of the tournament even better, as we are looking forward to celebrate DLF IPL 2012 with a great fanfare, beginning with Opening Nite.”

He said, “We would like to thank all the IPL supporters for their ongoing support as they are the ones who made the tournament what it is now. We are proud to gather a great line-up of big names to begin the 2012 IPL season in style.”

The Opening Nite of IPL will start at 7:30 pm; however, gates of the venue will be kept open from 5:00 pm for audience.
The IPL opening ceremony tickets will be available on sale for Rs 1,500 from 16th March, the IPL release added.

Organisers Reschedule IPL 5 Due To Delhi Municipal Elections

The organizers of Indian Premier League (IPL) have modified the schedule of the upcoming edition of T20 tournament due to the approaching Municipal Elections in mid April in the Capital, Delhi.

In a statement, BCCI said, “This year’s DLF IPL match schedule has gone through a modification due to the upcoming Municipal Elections in mid April 2012 in Delhi.”

As per the new match schedule, Delhi Daredevils will now battle with Deccan Chargers at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium on April 19 instead of April 14.

Another match between the two teams originally scheduled at 4:00 pm on April 19 in Cuttack has been changed to May 10 at 4:00PM in Hyderabad.

Further, Deccan Chargers will not be playing with Pune Warriors in Hyderabad on May 1. Instead, the teams will battle with each other at 4:00 pm in Cuttack on the same day.

Other significant changes include, the play-off match scheduled on May 22 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru has been moved to MCA Stadium, Pune.

The other play-off match scheduled on May 23 will be held in Bengaluru at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

If Bangalore Royal Challengers are placed 1^st or 2^nd in the IPL table, then the eliminator play-off game will be held in Pune on May 22, and the Qualifier 1 play-off game will be held in Bengaluru on May 23.

If the Bangalore Royal Challengers are placed 3^rd or below in the IPL table, then the Qualifier 1 play-off game will be held in Pune on May 22 and the eliminator play-off match will be held in Bengaluru on May 23.

The Qualifier 1 play-off game will include the teams that completed the regular IPL season in 1^st and 2^nd places, on the other hand the eliminator play-off matches will include the teams that completed the regular IPL season in 3^rd and 4^th places.

As already announced, the Qualifier 2 play-off and the final matches will be hosted in Chennai at MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Rajeev Shukla, IPL Chairman said, “The commencement of the upcoming DLF IPL of this year is exactly 3 weeks far. We strongly believe that the 5^th edition of this form will become the best-ever tournament, on and off the field.”

Delighted with the squad, at his disposal for this year’s edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), Virender Sehwag, Delhi Daredevils captain is confident that if his side plays to its prospective it can build in the play-offs of the T20 tournament, IPL 2012.

He said, with pace bowling and strong batting line up at his disposal for this IPL season, Delhi Daredevils have the possibility to top in this year’s IPL.

Sehwag said, “I evidently requested for certain players (during the auction) and acquired them, specifically Andre Russell, Ross Taylor, Kevin Pietersen and Mahela Jayawardena. Confidently, we will deliver good performance and reach the expectations of Daredevils’ supporters.”

In a statement issued by the Delhi Daredevils, Sehwag said, “I think it is great that our squad has so many Indian bowlers in the force. Hence I can offer opportunity to overseas batsmen to be a part of playing eleven. I believe that the bowlers we have like Shahbaz Nadeem, Irfan Pathan, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron and other all-rounders, can do a good job as a bowling unit.”

“Usually Twenty20 is a batsman’s game and in case if the bowlers can prevent the opposite team to reach 150 or 160 or probably 180, we will be able to chase that down with the type of batting order we possess.”

Even though volatile Delhi batsman regretted the non-existence of a world-class spinner in the squad, Sehwag said his team has the weapons in its pace bowling unit to trouble any team.

He said, “I think we have tried every possible thing and were not left with sufficient in the auction budget to acquire a quality spinner. We actually wanted some quality batsmen instead of one quality spinner.”

He also said, “We can depend on our fast bowling unit which is pretty good. I think Varun Aaron and Umesh Yadav did a great job whenever they played during the last edition as did Morne Morkel and Irfan Pathan.”

Sehwag is currently undergoing a swelling in his sacroiliac joint and is not present in the Indian team in Bangladesh for the current Asia Cup.

However, the right-hand batsman said he would come back to complete fitness soon and was about to play the whole IPL season this year, which is commencing on April 4, 2012 in Chennai.

“I hope, I will be alright and will begin working on my strength once my swelling is gone. I did not play the whole IPL edition previous year due to my shoulder injury but I am eagerly waiting to play this year’s whole season for Delhi Daredevils,” he said.

When asked if Sehwag would be willing to bowl more this IPL season, he said, “Why not? Previous year I was playing with my shoulder injury. Now my shoulder is completely alright. I have already done bowling for many overs in ODIs and Test matches.

The singing duo have written, composed and sung the track for Super Kings for the upcoming IPL season that is named as the ‘Chennai Super Kings 2012 Anthem – Machi Song’. It is in fact the season for anthems in Kollywood.

We are glad to have composed the CSK song.”

CSK’s Innovative Marketing Campaign

Along with the 2012 Anthem, Chennai Super Kings, is also coming up with an innovative marketing campaign to draw more fans to the team in this year’s IPL.

Speaking about the marketing strategy of Super Kings for this year’s IPL, General Manager-Marketing, India Cements, Chandrabhan said, “We are aiming on merchandising in the upcoming IPL.
