Rahul Dravid, the wall, who announced his retirement from domestic and international cricket, would be handed over the charges as Rajasthan Royals’ new captia-cum-coach-cum-mentor in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), Raj Kundra, team’s co-owner said on Friday.
Kundra Said, “Rahul dravid will be the mentor and coach as far as the team is concerned.”
Shane Warne, the spin wizard, who led the Rajasthan Royals in the previous 4 seasons of the league, was also the coach and mentor of the team and Dravid would take these positions.
According to Raj Kundra, Rahul Dravid was the expected choice to guide the Jaipur franchise in the forthcoming IPL beginning on 4 April, after Australian great player Shane Warne’s retirement from the T20 League.
Kundra said, “Dravid was my first preference when the board met and said who you want as team’s captain. We had to take the final decision. I had only Rahul Dravid’s name in my mind.”
“He is someone the international players respect and our Indian players look up to. He is an idol. He is quite calm and collected,” Kundra said in honor of Dravid who score above 24,000 runs in ODIs and Tests combined with 48 centuries to add shine to the figures.
The Rajasthan Royals had signed Dravid in the previous season of IPL in the auction for $500,000. He was then with Vijay Mallya’s Bangalore Royal Challengers for the first 3 editions of the lucrative Twenty20 League.
Raj Kundra believes that the new captain to restore the similar magic in the forthcoming season beginning on 4 April that the Jaipur franchise had bounded up when securing the winners title in the inaugural edition of IPL in 2008.
Kundra said, “This season we have offered him with a decent team as per the requirements. Now, the team has got brilliant players. I hope he provides us the same results that we had in the inaugural season.”
